My photographic practice is heavily based in aesthetics. My passion for design informs my photography in terms of composition, color, contrast, light, and creativity. When creating photographs I try to capture a timelessness within specific situations. Little identifying time-anchoring features within the photographs allow the atmosphere of the image to transcend its time. Timelessness brings universality. Everyone can relate or connect in some way due to the abstract nature of the time of the photographs. I want people to take a meaning from my photographs and apply it to their own life and hopefully leave an impact. Aesthetically, I am fixated with composition. I see the image in my head before I move myself and the camera to capture it. Considering the rules of thirds as a rough outline allows me to compose the image in my mind. I then translate that into the photo. Rules are meant to be broken however and so my exploration of composition has led to stylistic images around interesting leading lines, engaging shadows, and a good understanding of positive and negative space in relation to figures. My current artistic interest revolves around the questions of what home is? Who or where is home? And how do we express love to one another, especially between father and son? These large questions have guided me to create a series of photographs about my family, dog, and what home means to me. I have attempted to capture a timelessness of family meaning that I want everyone to be able to place their own loved ones within the images I took and hopefully gain some personal impact from the photographs.
